30 Poems in 30 Days Part 2 Number 1 – Flight

I had so much fun doing it the first time, I thought I’d do another round of thirty poems in thirty days. Enjoy!

Flight

An unheard whisper
Carried by regrets
She sprints from the shadow
Creeping
Constantly creeping upon her heels

Her screams silenced by insecurities
Anxieties
Fears
That even if she opened her mouth
And belted the hymn of her heavy heart
To the heavens

It would fall upon ears
Deafened
Deafened by lifetimes
By generations
Of careful crafting
Of the human heart

Her trickling tears give life
To the crumbling stones beneath her feet
The thirsty demons below
Drinking greedily every drop
Of each unremembered sin

The shadow is upon her
Its claws reach slowly
But she is weary
From the fatigue of a short lived life

Here there is no hope
To defend against the shadow’s
Infinite grasp
Here this is no will
To fight against the shadow’s
Interminable persistence

Here there are only monsters
She has already
Surrendered to
