Every Day – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days # 23

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number twenty three of thirty.

Every Day

They burn holes into the soles
Of their feet
Calloused and cold they hold
Onto the fading hope
Amidst the oppressive reality
Of defeat

They march along
Stuck on treadmills
That run forever

The sun rises
The sun sets
Countless times
Over again
But as the light flows over them
From one side to another
Nothing changes
