If You Had To – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days #22

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number twenty two of thirty.

If You Had To

It’s a strange condition
Tragedies wrought
In all different renditions
Entire populations fraught
With the strangest fears
And most terrible trepidation

Crushed into quiet compliance
They walk empty streets
Filled with others just like them
A hive of infected bees
They hover along entirely forgotten

What crimes they have committed
Not even they can recall
Blindly they went ahead and did it
All under that same clarion call
