Gratefulness – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days # 19

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number nineteen of thirty.

Gratefulness

No longer do I pray
To fulfill any desire or want
Nor do I clasp my hands and wish
For any of my grief to be lifted

I fall to my knees and look to the skies
With tears filling my eyes
Not in the hopes that my sorrow disappear
Not even to ask that my happiness come nearer

There is but one reason
For which I speak
To the faceless deity
Who never chooses to treat

I only give thanks
For all that I have been gifted
And know that in my gratefulness
My soul shall be uplifted
