A Chill Settles – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days # 13

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number thirteen of thirty.

A Chill Settles

The door creeks
Eagerly it sneaks
Open
I see the shadow
A chill settles
Deeply into my bones

The black claws coil
Without effort or toil
Around the bend they come
Sneaking toward me
It has begun

I rock calmly
Oh how calmly!
As calm as I can
Possibly be
As the thing makes its way
Towards me
I am ready
