On My Knees – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days # 9

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number nine of thirty.

On My Knees

I taste the salt
Of my own tears trickle
Over my cracked lips
It stings

My hands pulse
With desperation
Palms open
Beckoning to the sky above

My head is heavy
With the weight of wishes
Spoken and
Never granted

I cannot lift it

The wooden floor settles
Around me as
My ankles twitch
With restlessness

So I kneel
In endless submission
With the ties of false hope
Keeping me tied to the ground
