Don’t Look Down – Thirty Poems in Thirty Days # 5

I’m doing a month of poetry, one new poem each day for thirty days. Here’s number five of thirty.

Don’t Look Down

A razor’s edge
Cutting into the soles of my feet
As I teeter an uncountable number
Of feet above
My life

It boils and swirls
Just below
Enough to be seen
But too far to be known

It is felt and forgotten
Lived and lost
And as I teeter above the cauldron
Propelled forward by me own thoughts
I hear the torrent call

With a wish only
I keep my gaze fixed
Ahead and hope desperately
That my feet will not fail me at this fragile
Moment

It’s a simple task
To make it across
Safe from all that beckons below
I need only

To not look down
