30 Poems in 30 Days #30 – It Is Finished

The dust settles
Not falling from its perch
In the heavy air

Twilight wanes
Giving way
To a haunting night

The trumpet’s echo
Rings across
Scorched lands

The final shadow
Falls like a curtain
Over an ungrateful world

The ages tremble
History weeps
The ground below hungers

Another one
Come and gone
Remembered only by the dirt
